Plumbers trigger more of the High-Risk Construction Work (HRCW) categories than the trade usually gets credit for. Confined space entry into a pit or a tank. Trenching for sewer and stormwater deeper than 1.5 metres. Work near a pressurised gas main. Hot works in a ceiling space with combustible insulation a hand’s width away. Any one of those means a SWMS has to exist before the work starts.

The documents here are fully editable Microsoft Word (.docx) files, written by people who’ve been doing this since 2010 for more than 15,000 Australian businesses. You can edit them, you own them, and there’s no subscription or ongoing fees.

The high-risk construction work in plumbing that needs a SWMS

Excavation is the big one. Laying or replacing sewer mains puts you in a trench, and past 1.5 metres deep it’s high-risk construction work whether the ground looks stable or not. Shore it or bench it, keep the spoil back from the edge, and put a ladder in close enough that nobody has to run the length of the trench to reach it.

Confined spaces come next. Pump wells, grease traps, sewer access chambers and water tanks all qualify. Atmospheric testing before entry, then continuous monitoring while you’re in there. A standby person who does not enter, and a retrieval plan that doesn’t rely on someone climbing in after you.

Gas work brings its own category, since working near a pressurised gas main is listed in its own right. Purging and the isolation sequence need to be written down before anyone opens a line.

Then hot works. Brazing copper in a wall cavity or a roof space is a fire risk, and it needs a permit and a fire watch, with an extinguisher within reach rather than back in the ute.

What’s in the Plumbing SWMS Collection?

The Plumbing SWMS collection carries 45 documents which can all be viewed above and in the Plumbing SWMS Pack. Broadly, there is the installation side, meaning gas, hot water, drainage, stormwater and suspended waste pipe. There is the maintenance and repair side for businesses working on existing buildings. And there is the groundwork and plant that gets you to the pipe, the excavator, mini digger, backhoe and skid steer loader, along with excavation and confined space entry. Hot works and welding are two more examples from the plumbing SWMS range. Every SWMS is fully editable, so the controls can be modified if required to suit unique sites or varying client requirements.

One SWMS or the whole pack?

One template covers one task, which suits a maintenance business with a narrow scope. Plumbers who provide a wide variety of services usually want the Plumbing SWMS Pack, all 45 documents and a saving of 69% Off the individual prices, bought once, used on unlimited jobs.

Why Choose Occupational Safety Solutions?

15+ years and 15,000+ customers → We've been helping small and medium construction and trade businesses get their SWMS sorted since 2010. Our templates reflect real-world experience across the trades we serve - not generic documents assembled at a desk.

Pre-written and ready to use → Every SWMS template comes pre-filled with the hazards, risks, and control measures typical for that task and trade. You're not starting from a blank page - the hard work is already done. In most cases it's far quicker to delete what doesn't apply to your specific site than to research and write it yourself.

Legally compliant → Our SWMS templates are prepared in accordance with the Model WHS Regulations (Schedule 3), Safe Work Australia Codes of Practice and relevant Australian Standards. They're structured to meet all the requirements of a compliant SWMS - so you can use them with confidence on site, in tenders, and in audits.

Fully editable in Microsoft Word → Everything is supplied in .docx format. Add your company and site details, adjust the control measures to reflect your specific conditions if required, and you're done. No software subscriptions, no locked PDFs.

Pay once, use on every job → No ongoing fees, no per-project charges. Purchase a template once and use it across unlimited sites, projects, and tenders. When we update documents, existing customers receive discounts on revised versions.

Free phone and email support → When you purchase from us you get access to the same people who built the documents - not a call centre, not a chatbot. If you're unsure how to customise a SWMS for your specific site conditions, or a principal contractor is asking questions you can't answer, call 1800 304 336 and we'll help you work through it.

Honest advice → If you need one SWMS, we'll sell you one SWMS. If an industry pack makes more sense for your situation, we'll tell you that too. We're not here to push you toward the most expensive option - we're here to help you end up with the right documents for your actual needs.

As a small-medium business, we recently went through a period of accelerated growth and along with that came the need to update our existing WHS system to something much more robust.

Occupational Safety Solutions helped bring our documentation up to speed and provided guidance to ensure we are aligned with best practice for all of our WHS processes and procedures. Andrew has come to the rescue more than once when we needed new or refined documents for specific tenders and updated Safe Work Method Statements.

OSS are reasonably priced and responsive with fast turn around times. Honestly, we couldn't be happier with the service provided by OSS and would highly recommend to any organisation looking to update their WHS systems.
