Why Your Health and Safety Management Plan MUST address the Environment.

Why Your Health and Safety Management Plan MUST address the Environment.

WHS and OHS continue to evolve under the pressure of ever-changing political agendas, technologies and community expectations. One example of this is that environmental concerns must now be stringently addressed in health and safety management plans. In this article, we will provide an introduction to these requirements, as well as an overview of the product we have created to meet this need.

Our solution is the Health, Safety and Environment Management Plan, or HSEMP for the acronym lovers.

In this plan, we have brought together two comprehensive stand-alone products to create one masterful, high-return solution. The Environmental Management Plan and the WHS Management Plan were great on their own. Together they complement each other beautifully.

If you want to learn more on speed-dial (so to speak) simply click here. Otherwise, read on to learn more about:

  1. The fines involved if you don’t get this right, and
  2. The environmental aspects of this re-usable and fully supported plan.

HSE Management is Cheaper Done, Than Not.

If you are a business owner or manager, you know the difficulty of navigating for profitability and efficiency within the space allowed. You need to respond diligently and quickly to moving goalposts and adjusted sidelines can becoming tiring. Even for the diligent, keeping up with the compliance demands can be overwhelming. And then there is the challenge of ensuring the plan is implemented correctly.

Shortcuts can become tempting. But beware: fail to plan comprehensively, or fail to implement the management plan absolutely, and the fines will hurt. Of course,  the environmental or human cost can be significant too, but let’s look at the numbers.

Let’s consider NSW as an example. In NSW, the punch will come from the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 and its regulations. They can be viewed at the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Website and a full list is available here. The ten most serious HSE offences fine corporations and individuals, $15,000 and $7,000 respectively. Just one fine would be enough but gather a few of these per offence hammer blows and you’ll be feeling the pain. The other 19 offence penalties range from $4,000 to $8,000 for corporations, and $2,000 to $4,000 for individuals.

We’re confident of the math: investing in a comprehensive and implementable Health, Safety and Environmental Management product is a high-return investment.

Oh, and by the way, all Occupational Safety Solutions’ management plans evolve with any changes that occur. As our client, you receive notifications of relevant compliance changes. If the new standards result in a substantial change of the template, you will receive the revised version at a greatly reduced price. In some instances, the new version will be provided free-of-charge.

Your Health, Safety and Environmental Management Plan will help you manage the many and sometimes competing aspects involved. It makes the complex simple.
