Manual Handling Hazard Checklist
Manual handling requires a person to exert force to lift, lower, push, pull, carry, hold or restrain an animate or inanimate object. These activities account for most work practices, so it’s no surprise manual handling injuries are the cause of the highest number of injuries occurring in the workplace.
Manual handling injuries refer to strains, sprains, torn muscles or ligaments and injury to spinal discs. These injuries are painful and can take months for the injured person to recover, affecting their work and home life.
The Manual Handling Hazard Checklist provides an easy reference tool to assist workers to identify common hazards relating to manual handling and is best used in conjunction with the Risk Management Procedure and Risk Assessment Worksheet.
